Looking Back:
As part of our math program this year, along with
following our school wide Jump Math program, in
grade 5/6, we also complete 'Monday Math
Problem-Solving'. This is an opportunity for
students to work in small groups to tackle a
deep level thinking, multi-step math problem.
In writer's workshop, students are completing a 'My Special Place' writing piece through the use of imagery.
Our federal election Student Vote is coming up soon, in grade 6 social studies, we have been busy prepping for that!
We are enjoying our novel study- Ninth Ward. Along with each chapter, we complete writing tasks focusing on summarizing, vocabulary work, visualizing, synthesizing, among others.
Looking Forward:
-In writer's workshop, we will continue working on our visualization activity- 'My Special Place'.
-In math, we have now started our Number Sense unit. We will focus on place value.
-In grade 5 social studies, students will create their own maps and come up with a name for their country. Their map will consist of all the mapping components we've learned so far- titles, legend, compass, landforms, etc.
-In grade 6 social studies, we will continue looking at the race to the federal elections. We will complete a series of research activities on all of the candidates.
-We are now about half way into our novel study- Ninth Ward. This week, we will complete a mini project based off our novel. Next week, we will continue reading the second half of our novel.
