Looking Back:

-In writer's workshop we have been working on visualizing and sensory writing.  Students completed a 'visualizing colour' writing task.

-In math we continued with our number sense unit- focusing on addition and subtraction.

-In grade 5 social studies, we continued with our mapping unit. Students have been working hard to create a map for a country of their own.

-In grade 6 social studies, students continued with activities surrounding our federal election.

-This week, students also had an opportunity to do some exploration and hands on learning with Ozobots, which we will be utilizing for coding this year.

Below are a few pictures from our week at school:

In grade 6 social studies, we watched and analyzed the debate that took place between all prospective candidates this week.

Working with Ozobots.  We were given a challenge to code the Ozobot to trace our names.  We had so much fun using these robots!

Grade 5 social studies- students are creating a map. They are incorporating all of the components of a map. (Title, legend, compass, cities, capital city, 10 different landforms)

Monday Math Problem Solving Task

Visualizing Colour Poems-Students created a poem for a colour and used all of the senses to describe that colour along with the opposites of those descriptions.

We completed a 'Thankful For' activity with our reading buddies!

Looking Forward:

-In writer's workshop, now that we've spent a few weeks looking at various writing techniques that writer's use to enhance writing, such as: sensory writing, 'show, don't tell', dialogue, transition words, interesting hooks, among others- we will use these techniques to create personal narratives.

-In math, we will continue with our number sense unit.

-In grade 5 social studies, we will continue with our mapping project.

-The grade 6 students will take part in a nation wide Student Vote this week. Students will have an opportunity to cast a vote for one of the prospective candidates in our federal election. For the last few weeks, we have been studying the candidates closely and becoming well-informed to make our big decision!
