Looking Back  |  Looking Forward

Writer's Workshop

This week we continued to work on our personal narratives. We discussed the importance of revising our work and peer feedback. We went back to the beginning and middle of our stories and looked at ways to enhance our work, using all of the writing techniques we've learned so far. Students picked sections of their story that they could tweak and "zoom" in on to enhance that writing. Next week, we will focus on strong endings for our stories.

Math

This week, we continued with our multiplication and division unit. We are now feeling more confident with multiplication and even started basic division. Next week, we will focus on long division. Again, I would strongly suggest that students practice their timetables as much as possible, as automaticity in this will be very beneficial for many other math concepts.

Social Studies

In grade 5 social studies, we began our new unit: Regions of Canada. We looked into all 6 regions this week, locating them on a map and discussing their physical features. Next week, we will begin studying each region in depth through various independent and small group work activities.

In grade 6 social studies, we continued with our Pillars of Democracy unit. Students are working on their visual representation of the four pillars.

Art

This week, we focused on Remembrance Day. We enjoyed using watercolour pencils to complete these tasks.

Novel Study

Next week, we will complete the final two chapters of our novel and begin our final projects! Students will have a variety of options to chose from to showcase their understanding of the text in detail and depth.

Below are a few pictures from our week at school:

The grade 5 students paired up with the grade 6 students and practiced 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication and 3 digit by 2 digit multiplication.
