Writer's Workshop
This week we put the final touches on our personal narratives which we then converted into ebooks. We spent a lot of time on this writing piece over the course of the last month. We learned about the importance of incorporating effective writing techniques to engage the reader to our writing. We focused very closely on visualization and sensory writing. Our next writing unit will be Narrative Writing!
Novel Study
We have now finished reading our novel: Ninth Ward. Next week, we are excited to begin our final projects which will include a variety of options to choice from. We will showcase our understanding of the novel through these final projects.
Math
This week, we continued with long division practice. We are feeling more comfortable with our abilities to solve long division problems. Next week, we will continue to focus on this and then wrap our unit of Multiplication and Division with a unit test the following week.
Social Studies
In grade 5 social studies, we have continued with our study on the regions of Canada. This week, we focused on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Lowlands. We learned that this region has the largest source of fresh water in Canada because of the St. Lawrence River, Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes. We also learned that manufacturing is the biggest industry in this region. Next week, we will take a look at the Cordillera region.
In grade 6 social studies, we continued our work on the Pillars of Democracy. Students are working through completing their visual representation of the four pillars.
