I miss each and every one of you very much! I'm thinking about you all and I hope you are enjoying the break with moderate screen time and A LOT of quality family time! 😊💞
Parents/Guardians: Below is information of the work we had been focusing on in all subject areas. I hope this will provide families with some direction for the next little bit. Please also be sure to check out the 'Learning at Home' webpage provided by CBE, which shares a variety of educational ideas for families to support skills in literacy, numeracy and wellness at home.
In addition to this, be sure to check school messenger and our Mount View Twitter page (@MountViewCBE) as new information is released.
Parents/Guardians, I would love to see what the kiddos have been up to! Feel free to share information/pictures of the work being completed at home. You can contact me at majawanda@cbe.ab.ca
Language Arts
Students were working on their narrative stories. These can be found on their Google Drive. Some students were also in the process of using Book Creator to publish their stories.
After spring break, our plan was to begin Book Clubs. I will determine how this will look going forward. In the meantime, I've included a link of books for students to check out.

It will be very important for students to continue with regular reading opportunities at home!
Math
In math we were working on fractions.
For grade 5, the focus was on- comparing and ordering fractions, equivalent fractions and comparing fractions using equivalent fractions.
For grade 6- adding and subtracting fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions, equivalent fractions and comparing fractions using equivalent fractions.
Khan academy is a great online tool that students can utilize at home. I regularly used it in class for teaching new math concepts. The interactive videos help to break down math concepts, step by step. Also, they enjoy learning from Mr. Bob! (they can explain the story behind that to you!) 😃
Grade 5 Social Studies
In grade 5 social studies, students were learning about Canadian Explorers: Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain as well as Life in New France.
Here are the links for students to complete these readings.
Students were working on two assignments based off of these readings. These assignments can also be found in their Google Drive.
Grade 6 Social Studies
In grade 6 social studies, students were working on their bylaw posters and write-ups.
I've included the criteria for the posters and write-ups for your reference.
If you have completed your bylaw project, here is another (current events) assignment you can try out. Grade 5s, feel free to join in on this as well!
Grade 5 and 6 Science- Please refer to Mr. MacDonald's classroom blog!
Music
Students were working on a Rock and Roll project. This can also be found in their Google Drive!
